Sunday, September 30, 2012:

Ahhhh, rain!  I never thought I would be so happy to see and feel some rain....  While it only lasted for a short while it certainly brought some temperature relief and a beautiful rainbow.  While it did not last long, it did lower the temperature to something we could enjoy.

An early walk for a Cappuccino
 and pastry

A short walk south of Praiano

You notice the blue car in the foreground, he is parked going the wrong way on the wrong side of the road producing the backlog of traffic behind.  His wife needed to go into the store and get some cigarettes.
This one is for Kim and Paul.  There was around 28-30 bikes going though town. Must have been a club outing.

It actually is a full moon or close to it.  The cloud was covering part of it. Taken as we walked to dinner.
Dinner Sunday evening

The happy couple

Bob had a local fish, it tasted a lot like trout.
Very good.

Shirl had shrimp, also very good.  Markley and I had pasta with mushrooms and cheese. Also yummy!!

A short walk home in the rain with full tummies made us want   to hit the sack..

Saturday, September 29, 2012:

Today was another day of rest as the temperature high today was 93 degrees occurring before noon!! We did get some nice "siesta time" however.

We went out this morning to go down to the little store in town to get some groceries, wine, and of course a gelato...

I did have an interesting incident while at the store however.  I was standing at the front of the gelato stand taking a picture of the ice cream when he started yelling in Italian and pointing at me.  I thought he was upset at me taking a picture of his ice cream stand when I happened to look down at the floor behind me and realized I was inches from falling into a 4'x4' opening in the floor to a crawl space below.  It would have done some serious damage had I stepped back another 3".

The picture of the gelato stand that I was taking when the owner started yelling. Sorry for the flashback but I was too shook up to take another shot.

The little store by our apartment.  You will notice it has a beer tap on the counter as well as liquor and miscellaneous groceries.

Another good example of the traffic.  The bus is stopped because they cannot get past the white van that is stopped because someone in front of them is stopped in the lane while he goes into the store. This stop did result in heavy horn honking.

It looks like we are in for a turn in the weather as some clouds and a little breeze has come up.  About 10 degrees cooler will be nice!

Sorry, but not many new views in today's report, so I  am back to the bridge table!

Friday, September 28, 2012:

Today was a semi-resting day.  We took the bus to Positano so Bob could return a little speaker he had purchased for his iPod.  We did find the store however the owner was having their "siesta time" and would not reopen until 4:30, 3 hours later.  These Italians do have the right idea regarding work!!

Stopping at a fish market to purchase fish for dinner tonight.

The Italian version of a pine tree...

Our desert after lunch was a wonderful  sorbet inside a frozen lemon.  Excellent idea for desert in our bridge group!!

You may notice the corrosion on the hill above the town.  The highway is in the upper left of the picture/
The beach at Positano.  The ground is actually gravel and not fine sand.

A good example of the traffic along the main road. You notice the pickup with the door open, he is returning to his truck after stopping in the middle of the road and going into the store on the right. You notice all the traffic has stopped, but nobody honks their horn or seems upset.
The rest of the day was spent trying to find a store that sold new SIM cards for our telephones that we had purchased in the states before we left.  We eventually found the store (after several days and several stores) within walking distance from our apartment.

Tomorrow is another day of rest.  The temperature here is quite warm with very little wind resulting in warm evenings making sleeping difficult.  Yes, I know, stop complaining, at least it is beautiful scenery and no rain!!

Thursday, September 27, 2012:

Today was busy but enjoyable. We left this morning on a bus to Positano where we would catch a boat to the Island of Capri.

One of many water taxi's in the area.

Capri is a nice island designed for the tourist and wealthy and with lovely architecture. We took the tram up to the upper town high above the port.

A beautiful sailor.

The view from the top of the hill.
Shopping, what else does one do on vacation!!

Shoes!!

Shirl pointed out the sign to us, not sure what she had in mind!!

Preparing to board for the trip from Capri to Sorrento

Sorrento is a little larger town about 20 miles north of Prainano.  Bob had heard of a good family restaurant there where we wanted to have dinner. The town has several beautiful old buildings but it also is a "shoppers" paradise.  In many ways the town reminded us of Verona, small narrow streets with numerous small shops.  One could purchase just about anything here as indicted in the pictures.

When we looked at the height of the landscape and realized we had to go up there we bypassed the buses that everyone else was taking and hit the stairs.

View from the top!

A craftsman making beautiful inlaid jewelry boxes and assorted wood work.

Just one of many, many stalls where all sorts of goods were being sold

Belts anyone...

or lemons,

or clothes and groceries..

or possibly booze..

or toys,

Does anyone remember how long it has been since you have seen a wooden orange crate?  Shirl remembered having used one for clothes when she was a youngster.

Working on repairing their fishing net

Two fishermen and their catch. I am not so sure how healthy the fish would be since they were caught in the boat harbor.

Two very happy visitors enjoying dinner.

The restaurant as we were leaving.  We had arrived before they opened but by the time they officially opened they were filled.  Many locals know about the restaurant as the food was excellent, and the servings such that we now have dinner for tomorrow night.

Back home, exhausted and heading to bed.  No bridge tonight!!
