Today was a busy day of doing the normal touristy things, starting with taking the tube to the eye, visiting the eye, taking the Hop-on Hop-off bus to the Tower of London, touring the tower and visiting the crown jewels, then taking a boat trip down the river Thames, and finalizing with a short stop at Harrods. A busy day resulting in tired tourists!!
The two happy tourists inside the big eye in London.
The eye is truly an engineering marvel. The enclosures are connected to the main structure via two sliding rings that allow the enclosure to turn 360 degrees as the capsules move up to the top of the space frame.
The eye provides an excellent view of the large Parliament Building. I have a question for you trivia buffs, why is the clock tower called Big Ben? The answer they told us today will be disclosed tomorrow unless one of you know the answer. The tower is truly beautiful. Note the small light fixtures on the outside of the tower, just a few of over 2500 installed.
This is the view of our condo facility from the eye. The facility is immediate to the left of the tall tower.
Harrods!! Words can not describe this store....
We ended up there today without sufficient amount of time to truly do the store justice. I have never seen a store with so much of so many things. Unfortunately we did not have enough time to see much or spend too much!! I guess we have to save something for another trip.
This is the ring that Dodi Faid gave to Princess Diana. Shirl wanted to see it as she has a copy of the ring and wanted to be sure it looked original. She left feeling good as her ring looks just like this one, just not the original one.
We are going to the Covent Garden Market tomorrow morning and then off on the plane to Verona, Italy.
73,
Roger and Shirley
